Washington D.C — Today, Senator Joni Ernst (R-IA) voted for the Republican Tax Scam, which could leave millions of Americans and thousands of Iowans without health care – all so the super-rich can get even richer. Her vote comes just weeks after she disparaged her own constituents and made light of the very real consequences of this bill stating that, “We all are going to die.” She then doubled down on her dismissive comments despite the fact that independent analysis has shown that this bill really could cause thousands of additional deaths each year. But according to Republicans like Sen. Ernst and Vice President JD Vance, those lives are “immaterial.”
“By voting for the Republican Tax Scam, Sen. Ernst told millions of Iowans that she agrees with Vice President Vance – that she thinks their health and well-being are ‘immaterial’ and matter less to her than kowtowing to the richest of the rich in this country,” said Unrig Our Economy Campaign Director Leor Tal. “Instead of making snarky TikToks, Sen. Ernst should have listened to her constituents who are bravely speaking out about the dangers of this bill. Instead, she decided to stick with billionaires and corporations over working-class Iowans.”
