Shot/Chaser: Trump Plans To Lower Taxes For Corporations, Not Grocery Costs For Americans

WASHINGTON D.C. – President-elect Trump is already buckling to corporate interests as he promises more handouts to corporations while leaving working people behind.

  • Shot: In an interview published this morning, Trump said he may not lower grocery prices – a promise he made during his campaign.
  • Chaser: Hours later, Trump said he would lower corporate taxes again for the same corporations raising prices on consumers.
  • Lime: Trump has already said he will increase tariffs on Mexico, Canada, and China, which will raise grocery prices for families.

Statement from Unrig Our Economy spokesperson Leor Tal: “This morning, Trump said what we’ve always known: that he will prioritize corporations over everyday Americans in his next term. After promising to help working people who are struggling with high costs, Trump is conveniently saying that there’s nothing he can do now that he’s been elected. Even as corporations continue to rake in massive profits, Trump is throwing up his hands when it comes to bringing much needed relief to working people and is instead promising to deliver bigger tax cuts for his corporate backers. Congress and President-elect Trump must deliver for everyday Americans, not bend to the will of corporate special interests.”
