Working families deserve to know: Do other House Republicans also support massive cuts to Medicaid?
Washington, D.C. — Though Congressman Don Bacon (NE-02) recently “committed to not cutting Medicaid,” he’s now willing to support $500 billion in cuts to Medicaid. That, of course, would be a huge cut to Medicaid, equivalent to slashing funding for over 18 million children who rely on the program for health care.
His colleague Congressman Mike Lawler (NY-17) lashed out today after getting asked about Medicaid cuts, criticizing reporters for asking him the same “stupid fucking question.” Well, now that his “moderate” Republican colleague flipped his position and announced support for $500 billion in cuts to Medicaid, it’s an even more relevant fucking question. Congressman Lawler: Will you cave and join Bacon in supporting the Republican Tax Plan which would require billions of dollars in cuts to Medicaid?
“It must be inconvenient for congressional Republicans to reconcile what they tell their constituents with what they say to the White House and how they vote. No wonder Republicans in Congress, like Congressmen Bacon and Lawler, are sick of being asked ‘stupid fuckking question[s]’ about Medicaid,” said Unrig Our Economy spokesperson Kobie Christian. “If your ‘red line’ is taking away health care from millions of people, then you don’t have a red line. Congressman Bacon is just saying what working families knew all along and Congressman Lawler is too scared to admit: The tax plan would strip millions of Americans off their health care – all to give massive handouts to the ultra-wealthy.”
