WASHINGTON –– As congressional Republicans dined on New York Strip, potato croquettes, and a splendid spinach peppercorn sauce with billionaires at the new ‘Rose Garden Club,’ working Americans were left strategizing on how to budget $1/day meals thanks to the policies Republicans recently passed.
Over the weekend, CNN profiled sisters giving online tips to a growing audience of Americans budgeting $1/day meals because of crushing inflation. Yet another sign of how horribly our economy is doing under Republican stewardship.
First, congressional Republicans backed tariffs that have helped drive meat and other food prices up since President Trump and congressional Republicans took office (as tracked by DontInflateOurPlates.com). Then, they cut SNAP and reduced food assistance from hundreds of thousands of Americans. Republicans have also cut funding for healthy school lunches and food banks. All to fund tax breaks for the rich.
Now they’re rubbing our faces in it by fine dining at a club built inside the taxpayer-funded White House.
“It’s disgusting that congressional Republicans are enjoying brioche crackers and sunset tomatoes at a building funded by the very taxpayers struggling to keep up with everyday costs, including food, health care, and utilities. All while these same Republicans continue to vote for tariffs and tax laws that raise our costs even higher,” said Unrig Our Economy Campaign Director Leor Tal. “Working Americans are tired of choking on Republican inflation while Republicans eat [fudge-filled] cake.”
