Washington, D.C. — Congressman Juan Ciscomani (AZ-06) would have you think he is standing up for Medicaid, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), and clean energy tax credits. Ciscomani’s office released a statement, saying, “U.S. Congressman Juan Ciscomani is ramping up pressure to protect Medicaid” after he signed a letter with 12 of his colleagues promising not to vote for cutting Medicaid.
Surely, Congressman Ciscomani wouldn’t go against his own word and vote for a bill that:
- Cuts Medicaid by more than $600 billion
- Kicks 10 million people, including as many as 445,000 Arizonans, off Medicaid
- Leaves more than 13.7 people uninsured…right?
When it comes to SNAP, Congressman Ciscomani signed on to a letter to House Speaker Mike Johnson that stated, “…we must ensure that assistance programs—such as SNAP—remain protected as nearly 22% of Hispanic families rely on this critical program. Not to mention the support that SNAP provides to families of all backgrounds across our nation.”
Surely, Congressman Ciscomani wouldn’t go against his own word and vote for a bill that:
- Cuts SNAP by nearly $300 billion
- Leaves nearly 11 million people, including thousands of families with children in his district, at risk of not having enough food on the table… right?
On clean energy tax credits, Ciscomani said that “…these tax credits have had an impact in my district — and on job creation, on investment, also national security” and pushed back on claims that he would allow the tax credits to be repealed.
Surely, Congressman Ciscomani wouldn’t go against his own word and vote for a bill that:
- Guts many of these tax credits, which created a clean energy “boom” in his own district, bringing thousands of jobs and boosting the local economy
- Would raise energy costs for families
- Threatens nearly 300,000 jobs nationwide…right?
“Congressman Ciscomani has been clear about his opposition to cutting Medicaid, SNAP, and clean energy tax credits, which do so much for families in his district,” said Unrig Our Economy spokesperson Kobie Christian. “With all these promises made, Arizonans expect Congressman Ciscomani to honor his word and do all he can to protect his constituents. When the Republican Tax Plan advances to the House floor, will Ciscomani remember all the letters he signed and commitments he made or will he vote to gut the programs he promised to protect?”
