Washington, D.C. — According to Congressman Mike Lawler (NY-17), he has been very clear when it comes to cuts to Medicaid: “We’re not cutting Medicaid.”
Clearly, Congressman Lawler will vote against the Republican Tax Plan when it reaches the House floor this week given that the bill:
- Cuts Medicaid by more than $600 billion
- Kicks 10 million people, including as many as 1.2 million New Yorkers, off Medicaid
- Leaves more than 13.7 million people uninsured
“Does Congressman Lawler think that more than 10 million people, including up to 1.2 million New Yorkers, don’t need health care? Because, if his words are worth anything, he should be doing everything he can to vote against this obscene giveaway to billionaires at working-class New Yorkers’ expense,” said Unrig Our Economy spokesperson Kobie Christian. “So, Congressman Lawler, will you keep your promise and stand up for seniors, children, and single mothers, or will you betray your constituents? Hope this isn’t another stupid fucking question!”
