Washington, D.C. — Congressman Rob Bresnahan (PA-08) proudly promised the people of Northeastern Pennsylvania that, “if a bill is put in front of me that guts the benefits my neighbors rely on, I will not vote for it.” But when a bill to cut SNAP by $300 billion and threaten access to food for millions came through the Agriculture Committee he proudly…voted to move it forward.
Congressman Bresnahan also promised that “we are not going to gut Medicaid.” He even signed two letters promising to protect Medicaid. So, Congressman Bresnahan, when the floor vote happens this week, are you going to oppose the House Republican tax bill that cuts Medicaid by more than $600 billion, kicks 10 million people – including as many as 546,000 Pennsylvanians – off their health care, and gives millionaires and billionaires another massive tax break?
“Congressman Bresnahan promised that he wouldn’t cut benefits his constituents rely on and then voted for the largest cut to SNAP in history,” said Unrig Our Economy spokesperson Kobie Christian. “So, Congressman Bresnahan, are you going to stand up for your neighbors this time and make good on your word to protect Medicaid? Will you oppose this bill that takes away health care and food from thousands of Pennsylvanians in and around NEPA? Or will you cave like you did on SNAP and stand with the billionaires who want another tax break?”
