Thanks to Congressional Republicans, Affordable Health Care Tax Credits Expired. Today, Congress Prepares to Vote On Bringing Them Back

If Republicans in Congress Don’t Bring Back Health Care Tax Credits, Millions of Americans Will See Their Premiums Skyrocket and Many Will Lose Health Coverage Altogether

Washington D.C — Republicans in Congress spent last year taking an axe to Americans’ health care and making life less affordable for working families at every turn. From passing the largest cuts to Medicaid in history to getting rid of the health care tax credits, congressional Republicans have raised health care costs for tens of millions of Americans. These callous policies are especially harmful now as Republican tariffs continue to squeeze the pockets of everyday people just trying to get by.

Now, thanks to efforts by congressional Democrats, Republicans in Congress have a chance to mitigate some of the harm they have caused by voting to bring back the health care tax credits that they let die last year. Over 22 million people relied on those health care tax credits, and if Republicans in Congress don’t vote to bring them back, monthly premiums could nearly double, and around 4 million people would lose health care altogether.

“With this vote today, Republicans have a simple choice – are you going to side with your constituents or are you going to throw them under the bus and raise their costs even further?” said Unrig Our Economy Campaign Director Leor Tal. “Americans have been clear that they want these health care tax credits. We urge Republicans in Congress to actually listen to their constituents, undo their disastrous health care agenda, and vote to bring back these cost-lowering tax credits.”
