Trump Announces Additional Tariffs That Will Drive Up Prices for Americans, While Republicans Scheme to Give Billionaires Tax Breaks

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Yesterday, the Trump administration announced even more 25% tariffs that will raise the price of Americans’ cars, medicine, and everyday electronics. This comes after House Republicans advanced a budget resolution out of committee last week that seeks to give billionaires even more massive tax breaks, cut crucial programs such as Medicaid and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), and blow a multi-trillion dollar hole in the federal budget deficit. 

“This action is further proof that Republicans’ top priority is making working- and middle-class families pay more for health care, life-saving medications, food, cars, and electronics, all to fund more tax breaks for the ultra-wealthy,” said Unrig Our Economy Spokesperson Kobie Christian. “Even as the cost of everyday goods continues to rise and Trump and the billionaires in his administration arbitrarily cut programs that help feed children and seniors, Republicans in Congress are still pushing forward an agenda that would give billions in handouts to the wealthiest few, while leaving the rest of us behind. Our representatives in Congress need to look out for their constituents instead of prioritizing cost-raising tariffs to bankroll a massive payday for billionaires and giant corporations.”
