Washington, D.C. — Today, Time Magazine published an interview with President Trump in which he brags about the cost-raising tariffs that he has forced upon working people and small businesses, an effort that Republicans in Congress endorsed before they left Washington earlier this month. Republicans have admitted that they plan to use these tariffs to help finance massive tax breaks for billionaires.
According to President Trump, it would be a “total victory” to have tariffs as high as 50% still in place in a year. He’s willing to bankrupt the American people with higher prices for the foreseeable future, while using the revenue for tax breaks that will help him and his rich friends.
“Republicans in Congress are allowing Trump’s tariffs to ravage the U.S. economy to fund massive tax breaks for millionaires and billionaires,” said Unrig Our Economy spokesperson Kobie Christian. “When Congress returns next week, we need them to stand up to Trump and the ultra-wealthy, and start putting their constituents first – not their billionaire donors.”
