“Don’t Inflate Our Plates” to Highlight How Trump and Congressional Republicans’ Tariffs Are Raising Prices on Working Families
Washington, D.C — Today, Unrig Our Economy launched Don’t Inflate Our Plates, a new interactive website tracking the prices of key grocery items and how President Trump’s tariffs – backed by Republicans in Congress – are making it even harder for working families to afford everyday groceries and more.
As families across the country gather this summer for cookouts, reunions, and everyday meals, they’re facing a new reality: Their grocery bills cost more than they did just a few months ago. From beef and eggs to coffee, prices are rising – and “Don’t Inflate Our Plates” connects those cost hikes directly to policy choices by Republicans in Congress, such as tariffs and their recently passed tax law which slashes SNAP funding to pay for billionaire tax breaks, making food even less affordable for millions of Americans who are already struggling to feed their families.
This new, interactive website features real-time grocery price data, state-by-state price insights, and accessible storytelling that reveals how Trump’s tariffs and the congressional Republicans’ economic agenda are raising costs for working-class families while funding tax breaks for billionaires and big corporations. That includes many of the same corporations that have inflated prices consumers pay at the checkout aisle.
“Trump and Republicans in Congress are singlehandedly inflating the cost of everyday items that Americans rely on,” said Unrig Our Economy Campaign Director Leor Tal. “While billionaires and corporations cash in on Republican-backed tax breaks, working-class families are left paying higher prices for eggs, coffee, and more. Don’t Inflate Our Plates calls out the Republican-backed policies that got us here and demands that Congress put working people first.”
