Washington, D.C. — On Saturday, August 9th, Unrig Our Economy, Social Security Works, and former Social Security Commissioner Martin O’Malley, alongside local and national organizations, will host a community kick-off event for the launch of the Protect Our Checks campaign.
Speakers will commemorate the 90th anniversary of Social Security and protest recent attacks by President Trump, DOGE, and congressional Republicans on this vital source of income for millions of Americans – all to fund Republicans’ larger pro-billionaire agenda that gives tax breaks to the ultra-wealthy and corporations.
The event will take place in Baltimore, Maryland, the birthplace of the Social Security Administration’s first office, marking a tribute to the program’s historic roots and 90-year promise to support those in economic need.
Attendees will celebrate 90 years of Social Security with free food, music, and fun.
