MEDIA ADVISORY: Unrig Our Economy to Inflate 30-Ft ‘Corporate Fat Cat’ in Front of the Capitol to Protest Big Oil Price Gouging

On Wednesday, July 13th at 10 a.m. ETUnrig Our Economy, joined by Climate Power, Accountable.US, SEIU, and other advocates, will inflate its 30-ft mascot Mr. Rigs the ‘corporate fat cat’ in front of the Capitol to call out Big Oil for jacking up prices to make record profits — and Republicans in Congress for enabling them. The demonstration falls on the same day as the release of June’s Consumer Price Index (CPI) report, expected to show that inflation remains a massive issue for working Americans.

While corporations, especially Big Oil companies, continue to make, in the words of President Biden, “more money than God,” Republicans in Congress have consistently voted to allow them to continue price gouging consumers. Most recently, every single Republican in the House voted against the Consumer Fuel Price Gouging Prevention Act to crack down on price gouging by Big Oil.

Members of the Unrig Our Economy team, including the campaign’s director Sarah Baron, will be onsite until noon on Wednesday to answer questions and speak to the campaign’s vision for an economy that puts the needs of working people above the profit margins of corporations and the wealthy.
