Unrig Our Economy Launches Second Wave of Ads Holding House Republicans Accountable As Default Looms

WASHINGTON, D.C. With just two weeks before the June 1st default date set by Treasury Secretary Yellen, Unrig Our Economy released its second wave of TV and streaming ad buys in key House districts across the country.

This second round of ads is part of a broader seven-figure campaign that launched earlier this month, which spotlights Rep. Marc Molinaro (NY-19), Rep. Brandon Williams (NY-22), and Rep. John Duarte (CA-13).  Each Member voted in favor of Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s Default on America Act, choosing corporations and billionaires over working people in their districts and risking economic disaster.

The ads inform constituents that their Congressman’s vote for the Default on America Act  means significant cuts to their kids’ education, Medicaid benefits, and veteran’s health care – while protecting the wallets of billionaires and big corporations.

In response, Unrig Our Economy campaign director Sarah Baron issued the following statement:

“We are two weeks away from America defaulting on its bills, which has never happened before – and House Republicans would rather force us into crisis instead of looking out for the day-to-day lives of working people across the country. This isn’t some D.C. debate – if the country defaults, everyday people will lose their health care, their teachers, their costs will go up, and so much more. But these Representatives would rather side with corporations and billionaires over their constituents, and they must be held accountable.”

See the full script of the CA-13 ad titled “Never Happened” below:

It’s never happened…

America has never defaulted on its debt.

But John Duarte and Republicans in Congress…keep pushing us closer.

See, instead of making the wealthy pay their fair share,

Duarte voted to take away things we depend on.

Funding for education…

Medicaid

Even veterans’ health care.

All while protecting tax breaks for billionaires and big corporations.

So, tell John Duarte, stop pushing America into default and start looking out for us.
